Breast Augmentation Manchester

Breast Augmentation Manchester or Enlargement is commonly known as a Boob Job. This is a procedure that involves using silicone breast implants to increase the size of the breasts. There are some alternative ways of increasing the breast size such as using fat transfer. When receiving a breast augmentation Manchester & Cheshire patients are put under a general anaesthetic and most patients will be able to go home the same day. The operation itself takes about 60 to 90 minutes to perform. Breast enlargement is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the world. It is also one of the most popular procedures performed by our surgeons. Mr Reza Nassab, lead plastic surgeon at CLNQ, is well known for this breast procedure and the MiniAug procedure.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, also called breast enlargement or a boob job, is a surgical procedure designed to increase breast size and enhance breast shape. This can be achieved using silicone implants, or through fat transfer, where your own fat is used to naturally augment the breasts.

Patients seek breast augmentation for a variety of reasons. Some want to restore fullness after breastfeeding or weight loss, while others have always felt their breasts were too small or out of proportion with the rest of their body. For many women, this procedure brings a boost in self-confidence, body image, and clothing options.

At CLNQ, breast augmentation is carried out in a CQC-registered Deansgate Hospital by a highly experienced plastic surgeon, ensuring that patients are treated with the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Types of Breast Augmentation

There are several approaches to breast augmentation, and the right choice will depend on your anatomy and goals.

The most common technique involves breast implants, which are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and profiles. Implants can be round or teardrop-shaped, smooth or textured, and placed either over or under the muscle depending on your needs.

Another option is fat transfer breast augmentation. This procedure uses liposuction to remove fat from areas such as the abdomen or thighs, which is then purified and injected into the breasts. Fat transfer is particularly suited to women seeking a modest, natural increase in size without the use of implants.

Some patients benefit from hybrid augmentation, which combines implants with fat transfer. This provides the structure and projection of an implant alongside the soft, natural contour created by fat grafting.

Breast Implant Material

There are wide range of breast implants available on the market.  The majority of breast implants in the UK are silicone based implants.  The alternative is saline breast implants although these still have a silicone shell.  These are rarely used for primary augmentation.

Implant Shape

There are two main shapes of breast implant.  These are tear drop and round.  The tear drop implants have more fullness in the lower pole resembling a normal breast shape.  Round breast implants provide more fullness in the upper pole.

Implant Profile

There a number of different implant profiles which are based on the width, height and projection of the implants.  The moderate or demi implants tend to be wider with less projection.  The high or full implants have a smaller base width but more projection.  The choice will depend on your desired look.

Implant Coat

The shell of the implant may come in either a smooth or textured surface.  There is also a nano-textured surface which has features of both.  The textured implants reduce the risk of capsular contracture.  The smooth implants have a lower risk of ALCL.

Anaesthesia

Breast augmentation is usually done under a general anaesthetic.  The Motiva Preserve is the new method of breast enlargement which can be performed under a local anaesthetic.

Plane

The plane of the implants refers to where the implants are placed in relation to the breast tissue or muscle.  The Dual Plane is a technique which is under the muscle with some of the lower implant being over the muscle.

Breast Lift

Breast implants can be performed with an uplift or mastopexy.  The uplift procedure is used to improve the position of the nipple and breasts.  This can be staged or performed at the same time.  Our surgeons will discuss suitability.

Combination Procedures

The breast augmentation procedure can be combined with other procedures.  The common combinations include liposuction, tummy tuck, or labiaplasty.  The combination operations are sometimes called a mummy makeover.

Frequently Asked Questions

You will have a consultation with our surgeon who will ask about your concerns and desired outcomes.  They will take a full medical history and examine you taking measurements to help with implant choice.  They will discuss the various options of implants and provide guidance for your specific requirements and anatomy.  You will try on some implants to see the differing shapes and sizes.  You will always be offered a second consultation prior to surgery.

Most people will go back to work about 1-2 weeks following surgery.  During the first week, you will have dressings which will be changed or removed at one week by the nurses at the hospital.

We recommend that no strenuous activity such as exercise or intercourse is undertaken during the first 6 weeks following surgery.  You can return back to the gym after 6 weeks but starting slowly and gradually building up again.

We recommend you wear a good postoperative bra for the first 6 weeks following your surgery.  We recommend our CLNQ x Macom bras for this. You will also usually have a strap which sits on top of the bra above the breasts for the first 2 weeks.  This is used to try and prevent the implants from riding high in the initial recovery period.

The price for breast augmentation is from £5950.  The price may change depending on a number of factors such as surgeon,  the need for implant sizers if there is asymmetry or should an uplift be required.

We offer consultation for breast augmentation in Manchester and Knutsford, Cheshire.  The surgery is performed in one of our local private hospitals such as the Wilmslow Hospital and our Deansgate Hospital.

While breast augmentation is a very safe and commonly performed operation, it is still important to understand the potential risks. Complications are uncommon but may include infection, bleeding, changes in nipple sensation, implant rupture, and capsular contracture (hardening around the implant).

All risks are explained in detail during your consultation, and patients are given written information to help them make an informed decision. At CLNQ, safety and transparency are a priority.

Bruising and Swelling – It is normal to get some swelling after any treatment and this usually takes a few weeks to settle.  Some patients may also experience bruising or bleeding which is can be related to medication being taken.  Some medicines such as aspirin and herbal supplements can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising. A haematoma occurs if there is bleeding with the pocket.

Asymmetry – All patients have some degree of asymmetry between the breasts and sometimes following surgery these may become more noticeable or you may become more aware of these.  We will try to highlight some of these asymmetries preoperatively.  Many of these are beyond the control of the surgeon and based on your anatomy such as chest wall or rib differences, size differences, differing nipple positions and much more.

Implant Related Problems – Breast implants may have number of issues related to their use.  These may include: Capsular contracture; Rupture; Rare types of Cancers; Breast Implant Illness.  We will discuss these during your consultation.

Replacement – Breast implants will need replacing at some point in the future.  There is specific time period for this and each individual will be different.  The most common reasons for changing implants include patient choice such as wanting to change the size, changes with time or capsular contracture.

Changes with Time – There may be some changes with time, ageing, pregnancy or weight changes.  Your natural breasts will always be undergoing changes and breasts with implants will also always change. It is difficult to predict how the breast will change in each individual.

Scar – There will be a permanent scar around the natural breast crease where the implant is inserted.  The scar heals well in most people but some people may develop raised or lumpy scarring known as hypertrophic or keloid scars.

Infection – Infections are uncommon following these procedures although they may occur.  You will usually be provided given antibiotics during the procedure and to take home with you afterwards.  Although very uncommon, if infection does occur there is a possibility that the implant may need to be removed.

Sensory Changes – Any procedure can result in change in sensation to the skin in the surrounding area or nipple.  This is due to some of the sensory nerve being cut during the procedure to make room for the implant or swelling.  These changes may result in numbness or increased sensitivity.  They may be temporary or permanent.
