Covid-19 is a specific type or strain of coronavirus that has caused a global pandemic. There are daily changes in travel restrictions. Many countries have introduced requirements for Covid-19 tests prior to travel. The PCR swab test is used to show if you have active infection by detecting the presence of viral RNA in nose and throat swabs.
How is the Fit to Fly Covid 19 Test performed?
The PCR swab test involves a swab being taken from the back of throat and inside a nostril. This can be performed in our Cheshire based clinic or via a postal service. The test is quick and simple to perform. The procedure may make you feel like sneezing or sometimes when the back of the throat is swabbed you may feel like you want to retch.
When should I have the test and how long do the results take?
The country you are visiting will usually have their own rules as to when the result or swab should be have been done. This is generally a few days before travel. The test results usually take 48-72 hours from the moment they are received by the laboratory. This means that they can take from 3 to 4 days from when they are actually taken in clinic as the transit to the laboratory may take 24-48 hours. Please bear this in mind when deciding when to have your test. Although we do our best to process your test as quickly as possible we cannot guarantee results within a certain time period. The laboratory that processes the tests is the largest independent laboratory in the UK and deal with large volumes of tests so there may sometimes be delays. We cannot take any responsibility for any travel disruptions due to delays in results and not liable for any losses due to delays in test results.

What is the Covid-19 Antibody Test
The Covid-19 Antibody Test is used to detect antibodies. This test can tell if a person has previously been infected. Most patients that have recovered from Coronavirus will have produced some antibodies. We do not know if the presence of antibodies will be protected from future infections or how long the immunity may last. This test should be taken after 14 days from exposure or onset of symptoms. This IgG antibody test has been reported to have sensitivity of 97.5% and specificity of 100% by the laboratory. The test requires you to have a blood test that is sent to the laboratory for analysis. Results usually take 2-4 days.
