Many of us look forward to the spring and summer months, the lighter evenings and the warmer weather however for hayfever sufferers the spring time brings the added dread of months of debilitating symptoms ahead. During Spring/Summer and sometimes at other times of the year the different types of pollen in the air can trigger symptoms such as a running nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, irritation in the throat, headaches and fatigue.
Some sufferers also experience a wheeze or tightness of the chest. For many people who suffer with Hayfever (allergic rhinitis) these symptoms can last for months and finding relief can be tricky and costly. Many people will have tried the most common ways of controlling their seasonal symptoms such as wearing sunglasses, regularly rinsing the nasal passage and using sprays, administering eye drops and taking over the counter antihistamines however these require daily upkeep and so can become all-consuming, disruptive and costly. At CLNQ in Cheshire & Manchester hayfever treatments are offered to give you relief from these symptoms.
Hayfever is an allergic reaction to pollen. Approximately 1 in 4 people are affected throughout the year, many at different stages. For example tree pollen allergies tend to trigger in the spring season up until May whilst grass pollen usually affects people between May and July and weed pollen between June and September. Hayfever works in the same way to any other allergy, whilst pollen is not dangerous to you, your immune system initiates an inflammatory response to a foreign substance (in this case pollen) entering the body and fights to remove it.
With hayfever treatment Manchester & Cheshire patients have a number of options available for the treatment and relief of symptoms. Some commonly used treatments include anti-histamines or nasal sprays. Our doctors will assess you and discuss some options for treatment of your hayfever.
Depending on the treatment some relief should be experienced for a minimum of 3 weeks and for as long as the entire season.
Certain treatments can interfere with and cause problems for people with certain medical conditions and medications such as stomach ulcers and diabetes, ibuprofen and aspirin. It is also advised that patients with an active infection do not have treatment until their symptoms have passed. It is important that you fully disclose any medical conditions and medications during your consultation.
Discussing your symptoms with your GP is important. Certain hayfever treatments may not be available via your GP therefore we would invite you to attend one of our CQC registered facilities to meet our private GPs where we can offer advice and treatment subject to suitability.
At CLNQ we invite you to meet with doctor who will carry out a consultation which includes establishing your medical history to ensure suitability prior to administering a treatment. The cost of the hayfever treatment consultation and treatment is £95.
Unfortunately there is no cure for Hayfever, the only way to manage the symptoms is to limit your exposure and to use hayfever treatments described by the doctor.
